I want to create my own portable-amplification system for protest and DJing. This guy had simply hooked his mic up to a portable amp and strapped that bad boy to his bike. So, basically, awesome.
And he was using the amp to beat box about Occupy Oakland, which is also awesome, no?

Local East Oakland guy raises his fist in support of the May Day General Strike demonstration as it marches past. Another example of how Oakland supports its history and present as a city of social strife.
Oh, hey this is smart: stick your camera on a stick. Anyone ever tried this? Did it come out well, or was the result too shaky? How best to affix the camera to the stick?
If I were these two women, I’d use any excuse to pull out this dragon costume. Only if I get to be in the front though.
I mentioned that the general strike was primarily indigenous and immigrants groups, and here’s a fine example. These dancers led the front of the May Day march, behind a banner so long I couldn’t read the whole thing (see last photo).
I love that one of the main drummers is a kid, and that he has an older dude (maybe dad?) has as his whole job just to push the kid’s drum on wheels, so the young dude can focus all his energy on his drum.
Also, that incense smelled terrific, and masked the constant chronic smell of East Oakland.
May Day 2012, TOL will be Live & Direct from Oakland, Ca. Plan is to start early, go as long as the batteries hold out. Won’t be live streaming constantly all day, but both Pirate and Lexica will be tweeting all day long.

General Strike, May 1st. Which is May Day, better known outside the US as International Workers Day. What better way to teach your boss how valuable you are than to stay home and join the General Strike?
